Dem senator under serious investigation (uh oh)

Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., is one of the Democrats’ newest rising stars.

He, along with Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., captured stunning election victories in the Georgia runoff elections over Republican candidates in close races that both went down to the wire.

But there may be a reason for liberals to hold the celebrations.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the state election board in Georgia has opened an investigation into the actions Warnock and an organization he is affiliated with called the New Georgia Project took in 2019.

The freshman congressman is facing allegations that he broke state election laws.

Based on AJC reporting, Warnock and the organization behind him failed to deliver more than 1,200 voter registration applications to officials on time back in 2019. According to Georgia election laws, voter registration organizations have a 10-day deadline to submit applications from voters.

The rule is part of a larger effort to “carry out the responsibilities of the State of Georgia with respect to the registration of voters in Georgia.”

Apparently, Warnock and company were slow in meeting those deadlines.

Now, the attorney general is looking over the case.

As for the New Georgia Project — founded by former gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams — this isn’t the first time the initiative has come under fire.

In fact, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger once upon a time accused the group of sending voter applications as far away as New York City.

For Warnock, the investigation is a terrible start to his congressional career.

Whether’s he’s ultimately tried or not — only time will tell — for now he’s sure off to a murky start.
